Prospect is located to the east of Louisville, but still inside Jefferson County, for the most part, as parts of Prospect also spill over in Oldham County. Prospect was first settled in the late 1700's and was farming land for quite a while, until the railroad line made it from Louisville out to the surrounding settlements, in the late 1800's.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's, when the name Prospect was taken, only a few luxury homes had been built, but with simplified transportation to and from Louisville, more and more neighborhoods were planned and built. A few of the larger homes may have been summer retreats for Louisville's wealthiest families, similar to how Anchorage, Indian Hills, Glenview and Mockingbird Valley grew. A few of the more recent, and popular, subdivisions to be built in the Prospect Real Estate market include Hunting Creek, Sutherland and Hillcrest.
Prospect Ky Real Estate Pictures
As I drive around Prospect, I often take a camera with me, and like to snap a few photos from some of the different subdivisions available in Prospect. If you will allow me a little freedom for a generalization, homes in Prospect tend to be larger than the overall Louisville real estate market, and they also tend to be quite a bit more expensive. To help visitor to Prospect get an idea of what their money could buy in terms of houses, I have included my Flickr feed to help you visualize Prospect homes. However, please note that I did not indicate that these particular homes are for sale, these are simply a few choice homes that I took pictures of as I drove around.
Brownsboro Road, or U.S. Route 42, is the main thoroughfare for Prospect, which is roughly bordered by the Ohio River, Oldham County and Harrods Creek. I have to say roughly because Prospect is one of the few areas I have ever heard of that actually extends into a second county, Oldham County in this case.
As I mentioned before, homes in Prospect tend to be more expensive than the general market in Louisville, with the recent median price for homes for sale hovering right around $500,000, compared with $150,000 or so for the Greater Louisville Area.
