Anchorage Ky

Anchorage Ky home picture private driveNamed after a boat, or dock, of an early resident from the late 1800′s, Anchorage was incorporated as a city in 1878. Located well off from the Ohio River, some people find the water named theme a little curious, but that hasn’t stopped the area from becoming one of the most prestigious addresses in all of Louisville.  This is an area known for mature trees, large lots and often very beautiful and interesting architecture.

Many of the areas best known residences date back close to 100 years, or more. In addition, many of Louisville’s newest and largest homes are built here, including the home of the founder of Papa John’s Pizza, which is still rumored to be Louisville’s most expensive residence.

In the early 1900′s, Anchorage became a summer retreat for some of Louisville’s wealthiest families, similar to Glenview, Indian Hills and Mockingbird Valley. One of the best known early residents was Mr. Bernheim, who has a local park named after him. In addition, he hired Frederick Olmstead to design parts of of this city, which would mirror many of the Louisville parks that Olmstead also designed.

Driving through the area as often as I do, I have seen many different parts, some very nice, and a few spots which aren’t quite as nice.  However, Anchorage is well known for it’s higher end properties, with larger lots and large homes.  On one trip through the area, I managed to grab just a quick bit of video, which I have shared below.
