The Highlands is an area of Louisville that is hard to describe and most locals will have a different definition of the boundaries, depending upon where they live themselves, and whether or not they want to be inclusive, or exclusive!
Having grown up in the Highlands myself, I can attest to the fact that is one of the “funkiest” areas of town, with small Mom and Pop stores mixed in along Bardstown Road, the main thorough fare of the area. In addition, some of Louisville’s very best restaurants are located here, such as Lilly’s, Jack Fry’s and Seviche.
Some of the areas most desirable homes are found here, including homes in almost every price range. In Germantown, you can find entry level homes that always seem in demand. In some smaller neighborhoods, such as Deer Park, or Tyler Park, you will find a higher price range, but still affordable for many first time buyers or move up buyers. In addition, some of Louisville’s priciest homes will be located in the Highlands, along Cherokee Road and surrounding streets, with some homes in excess of one or two million dollars.
The Highlands are popular with students, young professionals, artists and older residents as well. Perhaps one of the most eclectic mix of people, stores and restaurants can be found in the Highlands and St Matthews as well as Crescent Hill.
Homes For Sale in the Highlands
My office is in the Highlands and I have probably driven up and down just about every street in the area. Usually, I am simply going from here to there, but on some days, I grab my video camera and just grab a short video of a few streets, to help people get an idea of what exactly makes the Highlands so special.
